Snowman Science

In science, we are learning about the States of Matter.  What perfect way to study changing states of matter than through a melting snowman experiment!  The thing is, I had the experiment, we just needed the snowman!

While Pinteresting one day, I came across a way to bring a little ol' snowman right into my classroom.
I love this post by The Frugal Teacher.
Check out her "Life Cycle of a Snowman" Activity - so, so meaningful (and cute!!)

If you are interested in conducting a melting snowman experiment in your classroom, grab a copy of my Snowman Science Scientific Process packet!

You can find it at Teachers Notebook.

I am looking forward to doing this activity this week with my students. They will follow it up with a letter to a little snowman explaining the states of matter.  I'll post some pics :)

I am looking for some more great matter ideas...If you have a link to a matter activity on your blog, I'd love to come visit!

  1. Hi! Thanks for the shout out! I love this experiment. It is actually more fun to watch the snowman melt throughout the day. I get there a little early to get him set up and then we record what we see all day. By the end of the day, the snowman will be almost melted and then I cook him up in an electric skillet and create steam! Here's a link to the post from this year's Life Cycle of a Snowman day! http://www.frugalteacher.com/2012/10/the-life-cycle-of-snowman-2012.html

  2. Thank you for the comment- I have to get my hands on an electric skillet! This year's post looked just as fun as last years, thank you for sharing! We ended up building him first thing in the morning. The kids LOVED this activity. One of them said that I was a genius! I explained the power of teachers sharing ideas over the internet and how I saw you this in your classroom. He said, "Well then, SHE'S the genius, but we're still lucky!" Gotta love it! :)
